The object of the game is to get rid of all your cards, or if no player succeeds, then to win either a high or low hand with your remaining cards.

Each player is dealt 4 cards down, and 10 cards are dealt on the table in either two rows of five, or in a pyramid (4 rows, the first having 1, the second 2, etc.)

For each of 4 or 5 rounds (depending on the format of the table cards), the dealer will reveal one row (in order, starting with the row of 1 in the pyramid format), then players bet. After betting is concluded, players drop any cards matching in rank face up in front of them (duplicates on the table are ignored). All players at all times must reveal how many down cards they still have if asked. Then repeat.

The winner is the first player to have dropped all cards.

If no player is "out" by the end, then there is a High-Low Split. Each player must declare simultaneously if they are going high or low (see High-Low Splits rules). At this stage, Aces are worth 1 or 11, Deuces are worth 2 or 12, Face cards worth 10, and all others their face value. High and Low winners split the pot.

Variations

Not much to speak of. We have at times done "duplicate replacement", where if a card on the table duplicates a previous card, another will be dealt off the deck, but we usually limit this to one replacement card.

We have also used Jokers in the deck, which get replaced in hands and on the table at the end of the game. If a player goes out, then any players with Jokers get them replaced immediately, hopefully giving them the chance to go out as well.
